Part of the 2010 USA Trip Series
I hadn’t been back to New England in 6 years. Hui-chen had never been there before. So it was an epic trip to the northeast part of the USA!

The first thing that I noticed is that the Big Dig is finally all finished and the old overhead expressway is gone!

I used to have a wood smoker back in New Hampshire, and I have missed smoking foods in Taiwan (although I do have a smoker in Thailand). We went in halves with my sister and her husband and picked up this Brinkmann smoker at Home Depot. I got to use it quite a few times during our visit. We’ll show you what we put in the smoker shortly.

Part of the 2010 USA Trip Series

Hui-chen and I headed back to the US recently to visit our family there. We went a bit later in the year than we have in the past, so our flights were different (and also because Delta has merged with Northwest) and so was the trip routing. By the way, if you haven’t seen the series on our 2008 trip, you may find the first installment here.
Last time we left Taiwan and went through Japan and then onto the USA. This time, we went in the opposite direction: Hong Kong.

Hui-chen and I just returned to Taiwan from vacation and found that some more work had been done on the road behind our house. As you may recall last time, the sidewalks had been broken up and removed. That was back in January. Now it appears that the sidewalks have been finished.

Notice how holes have been made to fit around the trees.

We’ve just returned from a whirlwind trip to the USA! We’re ready to bring you the story of where we went, what we did, what we saw and what we ate! But before we get into the first installment of our trip I want to ask our readers for their opinion of how we should format the articles.

Bushman Meets Mike01905 in Lynn, Massachusetts
In our last trip series, we brought you the food experiences last, in separate articles at the end of the series. Dear Readers, how should we present the food experiences this time? Do you like the separate articles at the end, or do you want to see what we ate along the way, in chronological order (as best as we an accomplish that)? Let us know and we’ll get into this brand new series with a bang!
Thanks for reading everyone!

We’ve come to the end of our series on our Thai-Lao trip of 2010. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about our trip as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you through the pages of our blog. You’ve already seen what we did on our return to Thailand and on our last day in Thailand, including the food, so this, our last installment will feature the only remaining food left – our lunch on our last day in Laos .

We went to a little outdoor place along the side of the road. This truck, packed full of motorcycles bound for Viet Nam, was right beside us. I couldn’t help noticing a very interesting detail about this truck:

The next few days of our Thai-Lao trip were interesting and now you’ll get to see some of the dishes we enjoyed.
One of the evenings, I tried a Lao “whisky bucket” which (I didn’t know at the time) is meant for several people to drink at once:

I had them hold the Red Bull (I don’t get drinking Red Bull at all) and just stick with the whisky and the mixer. It was good and in reality not as much liquor as it might appear.

As you recall from our series on our recent Thai-Lao trip, we traveled to Laos on Day 3. We didn’t get any food photos because we were eating on the run so-to-speak and we had nothing remarkable. So we’ll continue with Day 4 and show you what we had to eat on our first day back in Laos.
The first order of business for the day was breakfast:

Spicy Girl (left) took us to this shop where she and Prince Roy enjoy the traditional Lao breakfast dish – noodle soup. Michael Cannon gives it a try in this first photo.
